Thank You

Yesterday was Matt’s birthday… and it was a wild day with wind gusts of up to 50 miles per hour and snow accumulation of something like 6.1 inches. And yet in the middle of all of this Matt had this big smile upon his face.

This conversation happened on his facebook page:

Dawn: Happy Birthday Matt!! Hope you enjoy your birthday gift…more snow and a blizzard warning!! 🙂
Yesterday at 11:29am

Matt: LOL…when I was born, my Dad had to sleep in the hospital for 3 days, as the blizzard shut everything down….very fitting!!

Jantina: So is this your dad’s way of giving you a birthday hug? Must be 🙂
Yesterday at 1:49pm

Dawn: That is a very happy thought!! 🙂

And as I reflect on this winter weather and the smile on his face yesterday, I am convinced now more than ever that Todd touched the very bottom of his heart yesterday.

Todd Kenneth Wennerstrom, 63, passed away peacefully on Saturday, May 23, 2009, surrounded by his family.

A memorial service will be held 4:30 p.m. Friday, May 29, 2009 at Hamilton’s on Westown Parkway, 3601 Westown Parkway.

Todd was born October 17, 1945 to Vernon and Maxine Wennerstrom in Minneapolis, MN. He graduated from Minnehaha Academy in the Twin Cities and later attended St. Cloud State and the University of Northern Colorado with degrees in educational administration and special education.

During his career Todd held positions in education as teacher, principal, director of special education and superintendent. He loved music (especially his trumpet), camping, church work, playing and teaching chess and, most of all, time with family.

Todd is survived by his wife, Nadene; sons, Matthew and his wife Jantina of West Des Moines and David and his fiancé Carey of Kansas City; daughter, Megan and her husband Scott Thompson of Urbandale; grandchildren, Halleah and Mattalyn Wennerstrom and Ava Thompson; and many relatives and beloved friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Vern and Maxine Wennerstrom; brother, Kent; and grandson, Zach.

Memorial contributions may be given to the family.

M&M Addict

I have to tell this story b/c it is too funny to keep to myself.

Matt has never eaten M&Ms. Never, ever. Mostly b/c he has a deadly peanut allergy and the m&m packaging says something about being processed in a facility with peanuts. Yes, we have two epi pens in the house.

Well, Matt eats other foods that have that same warning so he decided last week to give m&m’s a try. Plain m&m’s.

There is now a bag of m&ms – a large bulk item bag of m&ms from Sam’s club in our pantry. Wonder who purchased that bag. Certainly not the man who teases me for my unrelentless quest for chocolate stashes in the house. Certainly not the man who thinks that we should not allow our children to eat such unhealthy foods…

Hmmmm wonder who I hear munching m&m’s right now. So busted!!!
